FUNDACION TECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION (TECNALIA) is as of 1st of January 2011, the result of the merger of eight research organisations: Fundación Cidemco, Fundación ESI-European Software Institute, Fundación European Virtual Engineering, Fundación Fatronik, Fundación Inasmet, Fundación Labein, Fundación Leia and Fundación Robotiker.
TECNALIA is the leading private research and technology entity in Spain and the fifth largest in Europe. TECNALIA employs 1 437 people (164 PhDs) and its turnover is 121M€. It filed 53 patents, had 3 800 clients and created 8 spin-offs in year 2009. TECNALIA is very active in participating in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and has already 150 funded projects, of which they coordinate 31.
The Construction Unit in Tecnalia is Member of the High Level Group of the ECTP (European Construction Technology Platform), the Steering Committee of the E2BA-EI (Energy Efficiency in Buildings Association-European Initiative) and the Spanish representative in the ECBCS (Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems) implementing agreement of the International Energy Agency. The Sustainable Building and Urban Environment department in the Construction Unit will participate in the energy efficiency assessment of the project. The team pursues the creation of Eco-Communities (Buildings and Sustainable Neighbourhoods) that minimize energy consumption by means of integrated design of architectural aspects and equipments and research and development of new products, assuring the comfort conditions of the building users.
